Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to the questions I get asked most often. If you still need help, feel free to get in touch or book a free consultation.
Students who have left school/college, who are resitting A-Level Chemistry — especially those taking a gap year or studying independently.
Yes. With traditional tutoring, you’ll receive focused teaching specific to your course and exam in every lesson. We’ll work together to create a clear plan that covers all the topics you need. After each session, you’ll have homework or practice tasks, and we’ll decide what to cover next so your revision stays on track. I’ll make sure you are fully prepared for the exam. Depending on how much content you need to cover, we can meet weekly or more often if required.
If you prefer the modular route, I’ll guide you to make sure you fully understand each module. You’ll still have focused teaching and practice tasks between lessons, but at the end of a module it’s up to you whether to continue straight into the next one or to manage your own revision programme. This gives you more flexibility if you’re confident working independently.
With traditional tutoring, it’s best to stick to a routine with regular lesson slots, but you still have the option to book extra lessons whenever you need them.
If you’re following the modular route, you’ll receive a booking link when you buy a module. This allows you to book lessons at times that suit you. Lessons can be rescheduled as long as it’s done at least 24 hours before the original booking.
I help a wide range — from students who missed their grade due to illness or gaps in teaching, to those who just want to improve their exam performance. Some are juggling work or caring responsibilities alongside revision.
Yes. We’ll start from wherever you are and help you rebuild your skills and confidence step-by-step.
Absolutely! Some students work on two or more modules in parallel, while others prefer to finish one before starting another. If you feel you need a lot of support, or there are many modules you want to cover, you may be better suited to traditional tutoring. With this option, I can take a greater overview of your revision, making sure everything is joined up and that you’re fully prepared for the exam.
I can advise on personal statements and write references for your university application. I can also advise on what grades you’ll need for your chosen course and how to approach your resit to meet those requirements.
For UK A-Level exam boards, you usually have to resit the full A-Level and sit all the exam papers again in the same series.
However, if you’re taking Cambridge International A-Level, you can choose to resit individual papers. This gives you more flexibility to target specific areas without having to retake the entire qualification.
Yes — as long as you haven’t started the module, you can swap it for another one of the same value.
Lessons are not recorded for privacy reasons, but you’ll receive all relevant worksheets and resources to keep for your own revision.
You’ll need a device with a webcam, microphone, and stable internet connection. A downward-facing camera is helpful for showing your working, but it’s not essential. (This one seems to be the cheapest on Amazon - but read the reviews first)
No — we use Microsoft Teams, which you can access for free in your browser or via the app.
Many of my resit students go on to exceed their target grades — often moving up by two or more grades. I’ve helped students get into medicine, veterinary science, and Russell Group universities.
Yes! As an experienced examiner, I’ll share exactly what examiners are looking for and how to avoid common mistakes. Each year I mark hundreds of exam papers, which gives me clear insight into the common pitfalls students make. Because I’m also involved in exam meetings and test production, I know exactly what exam boards are looking for — and I’ll show you how to apply that knowledge in your answers.

Lesson Frequency Advice
When you studied A-Level Chemistry at school or college, you will have spent around 400 hours on the course. For tutoring, we don’t need to repeat the practical work, and since you’ve already been through the content once before, it’s possible to cover the whole course in about 100 lessons if we wanted to.
Most students won’t need a full re-teach of every topic. Instead, you can add up the number of lessons from the specific modules you’ve chosen and then use the table to see how many sessions per week you’d need, depending on when you start.
For example, imagine a student who chooses Thermodynamics Part 1, Thermodynamics Part 2, pH Calculations, Redox Titrations, and Spectroscopy & Analysis. Together, these come to 28 lessons. Looking at the table:
-
If they start in September, they would only need around 1 lesson per week to cover everything comfortably.
-
If they wait until April, they would need about 3 lessons per week to fit it all in before the exams.
Cells in the table marked “Not achievable” simply mean that there isn’t enough time left in the year to complete that many lessons before the summer exams.
